    Our Purpose

    Professional Growth & Advocacy: The organization supports career advancement through continuing education, training, and certifications while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion to ensure equal opportunities for Black professionals in behavioral health.

    Community Connection & Impact: ABBHP creates networking and mentorship opportunities for members while working to improve mental health access and culturally competent care for the Black community.

    Clinical Focus Areas: The organization specifically addresses diagnostic disparities, including undiagnosed autism and behavioral conditions often misidentified as defiance, which disproportionately affect Black communities.

    ABBHP is a professional organization dedicated to empowering Black behavioral health professionals while advancing excellence and equity in mental health care. We focus on professional development, advocacy, networking, and improving culturally competent behavioral health services for the Black community.

    Our mission is to cultivate Black behavioral health professionals who drive excellence and equity in mental health through professional development, advocacy, and community support.


    Who can join ABBHP?

    ABBHP welcomes professionals of all races and backgrounds who are committed to supporting Black behavioral health professionals and addressing mental health disparities in the Black community. While our focus centers on the unique experiences and needs of Black professionals and communities, we believe in the power of diverse allies working together toward equity.


    What are the membership categories?

    We offer several membership types:

    • Professional Members: Licensed behavioral health professionals (psychologists, counselors, social workers, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, etc.)
    • Student Members: Individuals currently enrolled in behavioral health degree programs
    • Associate Members: Professionals in related fields who support our mission
    • Honorary Members: Individuals recognized for exceptional contributions to behavioral health equity
